Transportation Options to Community Partners’ Service Sites

The University provides transporation to community partners throughout the city.

Once you have decided on your community partner, you can find your mode of transportation on the Transportation Options for Service Sites page.  This page lists the Community Partner in alphabetical order and the mode of transportation to each site.

Listed on the side bar of this page are the community partners that can be accessed by the UR Downtown Shuttle, GRTC Connector or GRTC bus.  Students using the UR Downtown or GRTC Connector shuttles should also register for a UR Bus pass.  The pass is free of charge and can be used on any of the GRTC buses.  Click here for more information.

For sites that require a personal car, students may sign up for a Zipcar.  Click here to read the requirements, policy and procedure for Transportation by Zipcar to services sites.

Transportation Services also provides service shuttles to community partners.  The service shuttles have times they depart and return to the Transportation Hub at the Tyler Haynes Commons.  Space is limited and sign up is first come, first assigned.  The service shuttle schedule will be posted on Blackboard.

To sign up for a space on the service shuttle:

  1. Find your community partner and its mode of Transportation from the Transportation Options for Service Sites page.
  2. Then use the Monday through Friday links below to sign up.
  3. Enter your Last name, First name, and the name of the services site where you are volunteering.  (This is very importation when assigning seats on the shuttle).
  4. If the time slot you need is not available, check the other days of the week.
  5. If nothing is available during your requested date/time slot, you can register for the wait list.
  6. Vacancies will be filled with wait list participants first.
  7. Sign-ups for the following week's shuttle will end on Wednesdays at 12 noon.
  8. Once you are signed up for a shuttle your space will be reserved for the semester.

Zipcar

Zipcar can assist students in accessing local community partners that may not be available through service shuttles, due to service times or distance. Once you have registered with Zipcar and are an approved driver, submit your dates and service hour requests to transportation@richmond.edu. You will only be approved for the time required to complete your service, including drive time. Service is offered at no cost; however, if you sign up for a block of time and do not use the Zipcar, your account will be charged for the block of time. If multiple students request the same block, you sill be grouped together to share the ride.
